My services...

In my years as a Complementary Therapist and Counsellor, I have treated a wide variety of people from all walks of life dealing with many different issues. I use the following methods of healing, please click for detailed information:

Reflexology is a very natural method of healing, which dates back to around 500BC. It was discovered in ancient Egypt. Pictures were drawn on the wall of a physician’s tomb which showed people working on each others hands and feet, the symbols in the background were related to health and healing.

The primary function of Reflexology is to help to relax the person, and considering that over 85% of today’s illnesses are caused by stress and tension it is not surprising that Reflexology is so effective in treating a variety of conditions.

Reflexology works by bringing the whole body back into homeostasis or balance. Every organ, system and structure of the body has a corresponding reflex area that can be found in both the hands and the feet. By applying pressure and massaging the feet or the hands it is possible to have a positive healing effect on the entire body by breaking down congestion and improving the flow of energy around the body. This in turn will allow the body’s systems to work at their best.

The treatment will relax every area of your body, promoting the natural healing abilities from within, which when in good working order will enable us to deal more effectively with stress, and stress related conditions.

Reflexology successfully treats:

  • Insomnia
  • Infertility
  • Back Problems
  • Neck and shoulder Problems
  • Migraines
  • Constipation
  • PMT and Menopausal Problems
  • Anxiety
  • Panic Attacks
  • Improves Circulation
  • Stress and Tension
  • Reduces Inflammation

The cost is £30 an hour.

Life Coaching

What is life coaching?
Successful coaching is brought about through the relationship between client and coach, when this is firmly in place then the process of coaching begins to flow more naturally and easily.  You'll be able to discuss your dreams and ideas in a non-judgmental atmosphere and plan specific actions to work towards your goals.  Life coaching will help you to identify your personal beliefs, values and goals, and provides you with the support and encouragement you need to fulfil them.

Life Coaching is an effective way of helping you to achieve the clarity and the confidence you need to help you work through issues that hold you back from achieving your potential and living your life to the full.

Life coaching provides you with a variety of choices and helps you find the inner resources you need to bring about the most positive and desired change.
Coaching provides a confidential and supportive environment which is essential for the process of change. It helps you to define your goals, and break them down into manageable stages which help you to consistently progress at a pace that’s right for you.
Coaching helps you to focus on three main areas which are;

  • Where you are now,
  • Where you want to be and
  •  How you will get there.

The Benefits of Life Coaching

  • Helps to improve your sense of focus and direction.
  • Improves self awareness.
  • Increases motivation.
  • Helps build your self esteem.
  • Gives you more confidence.
  • Supports you through change.
  • Helps with personal and professional development.
  • Enables you to deal with stress more effectively.

Why Have Coaching.
One of the main reasons a person might choose to have coaching is because they are unhappy with their present situation and wish to improve or change it in some way.
Coaching helps you to identify the goals that you previously may not have been aware of, giving you clarity, focus and direction, resulting in change that is both positive and long lasting.
Coaching is about moving forward with confidence and attaining your goals at a pace that’s right for you, it raises your awareness that you are responsible for your life and are empowered to make those changes with the right kind of support, encouragement and motivation.

About me
My aim is to provide you with a confidential, professional life coaching service. I will give you my full attention commitment and support in a none judgemental way that will assist you while you make decisions about your future in a way that helps you on your journey through life to get from where you are now to where you want to be.
Although I started my career in complementary therapies and counselling, I found that it was a natural progression for me to develop and incorporate the skills of life coaching. I recognised that I needed to be flexible in order to provide the most appropriate services for the variety of the clients that I was seeing; life coaching was what was necessary for some people and I have used it both on its own and along side other therapies when appropriate. I find that each individual is unique and so I can structure the treatment or coaching to suit the needs of the client.

By entering into Coaching you can

  • Identify realistic goals
  • Learn to understand what the problem is and begin to solve it.
  • Begin to prioritise your goals.
  • Achieve your potential.
  • Create a more fulfilling life.

I am qualified in both coaching and NLP. I am also a member of and insured by the FHT.

Coaching is done face to face on a one to one basis, the cost is £50 and the session can last up to an hour and a half.

Neuro Linguistic Programming

What is NLP?
Neuro – meaning brain and nervous system. This part acknowledges the fundamental idea that all behaviour stems from our neurological processes of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste.  We experience the world through our five senses, making sense of information and then acting upon it.
Linguistic – relates to language. This part indicates that we use language and other non-verbal communication to order our thoughts and behaviour and to communicate with others.
Programming – refers to the automatic programs and unconscious habits we run on. This refers to the ways in which we can choose to organise our ideas, our sequences of repetitive behaviour and actions in order to produce results. NLP is the study of the three, their interconnection, what that means and what we can do with it.
NLP is the science of how the brain codes learning and experience. This coding affects all communication and behaviour. It affects how you learn and how you perceive the world around you. It is a key to reaching goals and achieving excellence. NLP is a model of communication that focuses on identifying and using patterns of thought that influence a person's behaviour as a means of improving the quality and effectiveness of their lives.
NLP is a method of modelling top performers. It is also a tool that when professionally applied can help people change unwanted behaviours or beliefs,
It has also been described as the model of achievement and the study of success.
Essentially it works on the principle that if behaviour can be learned, then it can be unlearned.
Where does NLP come from?
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) was developed in the early 1970s by John Grinder an Assistant Professor of linguistics at the University of California, and Richard Bandler. A computer scientist and Gestalt therapist. Together they produced a linguistic model that identified the language patterns of a few gifted individuals such as the world-famous Hypnotherapist, Milton Erickson, MD, Fritz Perls, of Gestalt therapy, anthropologist Gregory Bateson and Virginia Satir of family systems therapy. They studied people who were highly successful in their particular field and identified the common factors (both conscious and unconscious) that contributed to their success.

What are the benefits of NLP?

  • Is used for self help and personal development
  • Provides you with the skills you need to achieve your potential.
  • Improves your relationship with yourself and others.
  • Helps you achieve your goals.
  • Helps you create positive internal states.
  • Improves the way you manage your thoughts, moods and behaviours more effectively.
  • Offers techniques for fast and effective change.
  • Eliminates fears and phobias.
  • Changes negative limiting beliefs.

NLP works effectively on its own or alongside of life coaching and hypnotherapy.

Person Centered Counselling

What is Person Centred Counselling?

PC Counselling holds the view that each individual has within themselves the resourses they need for growth, and is capable of achieving their potential and by applying the core conditions growth is achieved more easily.
Within the counselling relationship the aim is to provide the client with the three core conditions which are regarded as necessary for sufficient therapeutic change to occur.
The first is unconditional positive regard means that the counsellor accepts the client unconditionally and is non-judgemental towards them; the client is then free to explore all thoughts and feelings without fear of rejection. Empathy means that the counsellor accurately understands the client’s thoughts, feelings and meanings from the clients perspective, this kind of understanding helps the client feel that they are valued and accepted. Congruence means that the counsellor is authentic and genuine towards the client.
Applying the core conditions will allow the client to grow in their own way, to strengthen and expand their own identity and to move towards becoming the person that they truly are.

What you might expect from counselling

People need counselling for many different reasons, but it is usually at times when they are experiencing difficulties in their lives from problems in their relationships, bereavement,  illness, stress, feeling stuck in a rut, lack of confidence, depression, addictions and many more.

About me.

I attained my diploma in counselling in 2001, I am fully insured by the FHT and have regular supervision to ensure my professional practice continues to be at its best. Although I have worked in the drug and alcohol services I have had a great deal of experience in counselling in a variety of other areas.

The cost of a counselling session is £30 per hour, although I have a sliding scale for those on low income.

Do you suffer from any of the following?

Fears, phobias, depression, anxiety, lack of confidence, unwanted habits, stress and stress related ailments. Then Hypnotherapy may be able to help you.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a very natural and safe form of treatment which can deal with many disorders both physical and psychological, that suits most people and is completely harmless and has no ill effects.

It is a naturally occurring state in between conscious wakefulness and sleep; it’s a state of deep relaxation and inner calmness. We all experience Hypnosis on a daily basis whether its through daydreaming, being absorbed in a memory, even reading a book, it occurs when we become so involved in what we are doing that we don’t even notice how much time has passed Hypnosis is a profound state of mental and physical relaxation where our focus is inwards.

What happens in Trance?

During trance you can still hear, feel and even speak, you will experience a feeling of calmness and deep relaxation and will be in an altered state of consciousness with your focus inward.
The experience of trance is different for everyone. Some may feel light and floaty others may feel a sense of heaviness while others may feel a tingling sensation in various parts of the body and some may just feel relaxed.
While in this state of deep relaxation the unconscious mind is more easily accessible to positive suggestion and this is where therapeutic change can occur. Although it is not essential to achieve a state of deep hypnosis for it to be successful.

How can Hypnotherapy help?

Hypnotherapy can help you find a different understanding of the problem. It can help your conscious mind to create the changes that are right for you.
It can help you tap into inner resources that otherwise you would not be aware of.
Hypnotherapy can help you to achieve even more of your true potential.

Hypnotherapy can be used successfully alone or integrated with other therapeutic when necessary.

About me.
I qualified with an Advanced Certificate in Therapeutic Hypnosis in 2003, and I am insured by the FHT.

Auricular Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, however auricular acupuncture was only discovered in 1973 by a DR, H L Wen of Hong Kong, he was working on a patient in hospital using acupuncture and was using a particular point in the ear (the lung) which was for the relief of post operative pain, and noticed that it had an improving effect on the relief of the withdrawal symptoms of a recovering opiate user. Then it was noted to also help those recovering from alcohol addictions. Many clinical trials were used and the benefits recorded, and today auricular acupuncture is widely used in treating addictions, and the symptoms of withdrawal including anxiety and stress as well as promoting well being.

In 1985 The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association ( NADA) was established to promote education and training within substance abuse and alcohol and drug services. The five point protocol was mainly developed to assist detoxification, withdrawal and relapse prevention from drugs and alcohol.

Auricular Acupuncture, does more than reduce the experience of pain quickly; it also facilitates the body’s own internal healing processes.
Auricular Acupuncture, like most complementary therapies, deals with the underlying problem and not just the symptoms of the problem.
Auricular Acupuncture treatment raises the body’s levels of endorphins which are a natural pain killer within the body, and can raise the body’s pain threshold by a large percent.

Treatment of Auricular Acupuncture

The treatment consists of inserting five small sterile needles into each ear for up to 40 minutes; the needles are placed into points relating to some of the body’s major organs, which include the lungs, the liver, the sympathetic nervous system, and the kidneys. The treatment has an affect on the organ/body functions concerned with cleansing and balancing the body. The treatment involves sitting in a quiet peaceful atmosphere, where relaxation can happen quite quickly. Treatment can last for up to forty minutes and should be a pleasant experience, when the treatment is finished the practitioner may place small studs in the same places of the acupuncture sites in the ears in order to continue the effect of the treatment over the next few days.

The  Acupuncture Points
Sympathetic Point – corresponds to the autonomic nervous system

  • It alleviates stress.
  • It is a pain killer for the intestines.
  • Helps with night sweats.
  • Nervous system is a powerful stress response in the mind and the organs of the body.  Anxiety gives way to calmness

Shen Men Point - known as the spirit gate.

  • It alleviates anxiety.
  • Controls nervousness.
  • Has relaxing effect.
  • Helps to bring the energy of the heart into balance.
  • Helps with insomnia,
  • Lowers blood pressure.
  • Harmonises the liver
  • Reduces sensitivity.
  • Impatience and moodiness gives way to calmness

Kidney Piont- known as the essential source of energy.

  • Alleviates toxicity in the kidneys.
  • Is related to life force and longevity.
  • Improves memory.
  • Improves willpower
  • Strengthens self worth.
  • Strengthens the spine.
  • Aids brain tissue.
  • Invigorates digestion.
  • Fear is the associated temperament
  • Fear anguish and paranoia give rise to awareness and gentleness

Liver- rules the flow of life force energy

  • Elevates toxicity in the blood and liver.
  • This energy is known to keep everything running smoothly.
  • Stabilises impulsive behaviour and mood swings.
  • Regulates the blood circulation.
  •  Helps clears dizzy spells

Lungs- rules the life force energy

  • Alleviates toxicity in the immune system.
  • Helps respiration and skin function.
  • The lungs are the very balance of life force and are a nourishing organ.
  • Regulates body temperature.
  • Controls breathing.
  • Helps with mentally letting go.
  • Helps oedema.
  • Promotes oxygenation of the blood.
  • Grief and sadness give way to courage and hope.

Acupuncture is not a miracle but it does relieve a lot of the discomfort of withdrawal while it restores the body's energy and internal functions to normal.
Ear acupuncture is not usually painful, most often people barely feel the needle going in. Sometimes a point might be sensitive but this small sting or pinch only lasts for a second.
My qualifications in auricular acupuncture are with NADA, the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association which I attained in 1998 in Liverpool with Margaret Pinnington and went on to become an assessor for Nada trained  practitioners, who require assessment every year in order to maintain good working practice.

Emotional Freedom Technique

What is EFT?
EFT was developed in the United States by Gary Craig a trained engineer turned personal trainer in the 1990s.  EFT has its roots in kinesiology and acupuncture it is a treatment system for the mind, body, and the emotions, and is specifically designed to remove negative emotions by correcting the flow of energy through the Meridians. EFT is like the treatment of acupuncture but without the needles instead we use the fingers for tapping on the acupuncture points; the points used in EFT are found on the face, hands and upper body.

The energy meridians that run through our body can become blocked or disrupted by unresolved emotional issues, it is said that unresolved emotional issues are the main cause of around 85% of all illnesses. And if not dealt with can cause even more ill health and unhappiness. By applying EFT it is possible to alleviate emotional anguish which can result in removing the physical symptoms associated. The treatment is a very powerful  and safe method of emotional healing and can even be used on animals.

  • Fears and phobias
  • Self sabotage
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Depression
  • Anger management
  • Personal development
  • Lack of self esteem
  • Pain
  • Guilt
  • Addictions and unwanted habits

What to Expect From a Treatment
The initial session will consist of identifying what the issues are, and then identify what the strongest emotion or symptom is, then the practitioner will ask you to bring it to mind and get you to scale the intensity of the emotion/pain on a scale from 1 to 10. Then the practitioner will begin to tap on the specific meridian points whilst you tune into the problem, the tapping gently releases the emotional aspects from the bodies energy system, which is generally a gentle process. Then the emotion or pain is re-measured and is usually reduced in the scale, the process is repeated until it is reduced or eliminated.

The cast of treatment is £30 and can last up to one hour. EFT can be used on its own or can be used alongside some of the other complementary therapies I offer.

Emotional Feedom Technique...

Bach Flower Remedies

What are the Bach Flower Remedies

The Bach Flower Remedies are a natural system of healing designed to meet the emotional demands of every day life.
There are 38 homoeopathically prepared remedies made from plants, trees and flowers, each remedy treating a different negative state of mind.
They work by stimulating the body’s own capacity to heal itself by balancing negative emotions and help you take more control of your life. The remedies are unique, simple and safe to use. They can help people of all ages from children to old age, plants and animals can also benefit from the remedies.

Where Did They Come From

The remedies were discovered in the 1930s by Edward Bach a famous Harley Street Doctor, physician, Bacteriologist and Researcher who spent his life searching for the purest method of healing and eventually found it in the Bach Flower Remedies.
He believed that attitude of mind plays a vital role in maintaining health and recovery from illness. His philosophy was that a healthy mind ensures a healthy body
The Dr. Edward Bach Centre, Mount Vernon, Oxfordshire was where Dr. Bach lived and worked and discovered his healing flowers in the surrounding fields and hedgerows. These same flower locations are still used in the preparation of the Bach Flower Remedies by the present custodians, who are dedicated to maintaining the method and use of the Remedies as intended by Dr. Bach. It also acts as the education and training centre on the Bach Flower Remedies. Dr. Bach devised a system of seven major emotional groups under which people could be classified, such as Fear, Uncertainty or Loneliness. He categorised 38 negative states of mind under these groups. Then using his knowledge of homoeopathy, Dr. Bach formulated a plant or flower based remedy to treat each of these emotional states – these are the unique Bach Flower Remedies.

How Do They Work

The remedies work by treating the individual, not the disease or the symptom of the disease. They work specifically on the emotion of the person and help to stimulate the body’s capacity to heal itself. The remedies help to balance negative feelings and emotions. The effect of taking the remedies is not to suppress negative attitudes but to transform them into positive ones. Dr Bach found that the energy held within certain plants specifically related to human emotions.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a simple, safe and natural method of healing that anyone can use. It is a Japanese healing technique which involves the laying on of hands and the channelling of universal life force energy from the channeller to the recipient. The word Reiki is made up of two words Rei which means Gods wisdom or higher power, and Ki which means life force energy. Reiki is universal life force energy.
Universal energy is an energy that flows through us and through
Every living thing in the universe. This energy can be affected by negative external influences and by events that cause us to become out of balance resulting in ill health. The Usui system of natural healing balances and strengthens the body’s energy promoting its ability to heal itself.

History of Reiki.

Reiki was discovered by Dr Mikao Usui at the end of the 18th century, he was the president of the Doshishi university in Kioto Japan, and he was also a Christian minister.
Dr. Usui was interested in healing and in the life of Buddha. He began to enquire why Buddha and his disciples could heal physical illnesses and why this power had been lost. As an adult, Dr. Usui made it his goal to rediscover how to heal the physical body. He started by visiting Buddhist temples and asking monks if they knew how to heal the physical body. Invariably the answer was that they did not. They were concentrating on healing the mind as they believed that this was more important as most disease came from the mind first. One of the abbots of a Zen monastery he approached told him that "they no longer knew how to heal the body. They used to, but this had been lost through disuse". The abbot was also interested in healing and he invited Dr. Usui to study with them and look at their secret books in their original language. In order to do this, Dr. Usui learned Chinese and eventually Sanskrit. It was in the Indian sutras, written in Sanskrit that he found part of his answer. A formula that allowed him to contact higher power in a meditation. Dr Usui discovered Reiki in 1922 after a twenty-one day retreat on Mount Kurama, involving meditation, fasting, and prayer. Usui claimed that by mystical revelation he had gained the knowledge and spiritual power to apply and attune others to what is called Reiki.

A Reiki Treatment
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. Treatment can be given in a sitting position, the recipient remains fully clothed, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. The practitioner gently places their hands in positions which cover the whole body starting from the head and finishing at the feet. A full treatment usually takes about one hour, which allows the recipient to reach a deep state of relaxation sometimes people will drift off to sleep some may  have visions or see colours. Occasionally there may be an emotional release or what is termed a “healing crisis”, i.e.  A temporary worsening of symptoms may be experienced in the days following a treatment.  Like all Complementary therapies the treatment of Reiki focuses on the whole of the person. As apposed to the symptoms bringing about balance and healing on all levels of the physical, mental emotional and spiritual.
One of the greatest benefits of receiving Reiki is an incredible reduction of stress and a deep sense relaxation, which automatically triggers the bodies’ natural healing abilities, and improves and maintains health. Reiki healing is a natural therapy that gently balances life energies and brings health and well being to the recipient

The benefits of having reiki

· Creates deep relaxation and aids the body to release stress and tension,
· It accelerates the body’s self-healing abilities,
· Aids better sleep,
· Reduces blood pressure
· Can help with acute (injuries) and chronic problems (asthma, eczema, headaches, etc.)
